The Friends of Lancaster Parks Presented the Pearl of the Parks Award to Joe Carter
Carter began his volunteer career at Alley Park in 2010 and has taught outdoor skills, primitive cooking, flag ceremonies, fishing, hiking and insect identification to hundreds of community members. He has also been a chaperone for the Adventure Camp Survivor Kids along with assisting with other park programs and events.
Carter was honored for his willingness to lead the volunteer teen group in planting native plants which he procured through Wild Ones.
"He is a true role model for children and adults; sharing his skills, positive attitude and of course his sense of humor," said Friends of the Parks President Mike Lieber.
The Pearl of Park award is given to a volunteer who goes above and beyond expectations for the parks department in Lancaster . It is named after Pearleene Reffit who helped the park department in the late 1980's when finances were tight by passing a levy. To this date, Pearleene is still actively involved in many parks events.
