Lancaster City School Board Announces Retirement of Superintendent Hale and Search for New Position

[Lancaster OH] The Lancaster City School (LCS) Board of Education has announced that Superintendent Nathan Hale will retire in January of 2027, a position he has held since the fall of 2021.

Hale is a life-long Fairfield County resident and served as principal for East Elementary as well as Assistant Superintendent and Director of Human Resources for LCS. During his career with LCS, Hale was a facilitator for the District Leadership Team for the Ohio Improvement Process, participated in the planning and construction process for the district’s new buildings and served as part of the district leadership team for successful building and operational levy campaigns, among numerous other achievements. He has been at the helm during the construction of the new high school which will open in the fall.

“Having spent nearly 50 years in the district as a student, teacher, administrator, and parent, I have enjoyed an amazing career,” Hale said. “While the January date is still some time away, our Board of Education and I are committed to providing continuing stability and success as part of this transition.”

To that end, the LCS Board of Education will undertake an extensive, nationwide search for a new Superintendent. To ensure a smooth handoff, they will be posting a Director of Human Resources (Assistant Superintendent) position immediately.

This early hire is intentional; it will allow the individual to work directly with all staff during the first semester of the 2026-2027 school year. They will also work closely with Hale to learn the specific roles and responsibilities of the district superintendent. Upon Hale’s retirement in January, this person will transition into the role of Superintendent.

“The Board firstly wants to congratulate Nathan on his upcoming retirement and thank him for his decades of service to our district and its students,” said Bryan Everitt, LCS School Board president. “We are committed to continuing the stellar leadership he has exemplified by conducting a thorough and thoughtful search for his replacement.”
