Foster the Future Alliance Launches to Recruit Foster Families and Strengthen Support for Children
Lancaster, Ohio- Fairfield County Job and Family Services and South Central Ohio Job and Family Services have come together to launch a bold new initiative: the Foster the Future Alliance. The Foster the Future Alliance is a different approach to foster care that focuses on providing care to children who may face a variety of barriers. This partnership provides skilled foster homes to meet the elevated needs of youth in Fairfield, Hocking, Vinton, and Ross counties. The Alliance will allow youth to remain close to home in a family-based setting.
“Our communities are seeing more children who are facing severe challenges and are often placed in a care facility, hours away from his/her homes,” said Stacey Bergstrom, assistant deputy director at Fairfield County JFS. “The Foster the Future Alliance will allow youth to remain close to home in a family-based setting. Children will be in an environment where they are supported through individualized treatment plans that are tailored to their specific needs.”
The need is urgent. Children in our communities enter foster care every week due to abuse, neglect, or unsafe home situations. The Foster the Future Alliance seeks to ensure that every child has access to a safe, loving home and remains close to their school, friends, and familiar surroundings.
The Foster the Future Alliance will recruit new foster families across the counties, celebrate and support current foster parents, debunk common myths about foster care, and engage local organizations, churches, and businesses as partners in this mission.
“The utilization of treatment foster homes in our counties will provide a safe family-based environment where youth can be stabilized in familiar communities, maintain meaningful relationships, and stay connected to service providers they have built rapport with,” said Treatment Foster Home Caseworker Sarah Fronista.
