Fairfield Federal Celebrates 130-Year Anniversary
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LANCASTER, Ohio (August 4, 2025) – Fairfield Federal is commemorating 130 years of service to residents in Fairfield County and the Central Ohio area this month. Since its founding in Lancaster, in August 1895, Fairfield Federal has served generations of local customers.
“130 years is a significant milestone for any business to achieve, and one that we are very proud of at Fairfield Federal. It would not have been possible without our dedicated Board of Directors, employees, and especially our customers,” said Mary Snider, Fairfield Federal President. “We are so grateful for the faith and trust that our customers have placed in us for 130 years, and we remain committed to investing in and supporting the community which has supported us all these years.”
Fairfield Federal remains a mutually-owned, hometown bank dedicated to the prosperity of the people and businesses it serves across the county. It is a steadfast supporter of the community by sponsoring events such as Friday Night Bandstand, and contributing to many local causes such as Habitat for Humanity, the Lancaster Festival, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Ohio.
The savings and loan movement began in Philadelphia in the early 1800s. The purpose of these associations was to raise money to be loaned among the members for the purchase of homes. As the popularity of savings and loan associations grew, a group of local businessmen came together to establish the Fairfield Perpetual Building and Loan Association located in Lancaster, Ohio. Articles of Incorporation were filed with the Secretary of State on August 20, 1895, and the books were open for membership the following day.
As banking evolved over the years, the Association adopted a federal charter in 1935, resulting in the name change to Fairfield Federal Savings and Loan Association, as it is known today. In 1922, the Association began the construction of its first office, a three-story building located at 110 E. Main Street in Lancaster. It outgrew that location, and constructed the beautiful Main Office building in 1964, where operations remain today. The Association expanded its footprint in 1980 with the opening of the West Fair Avenue Office, and the Pickerington Office was established a year later, in January, 1981. Today, Fairfield Federal continues to serve customers from these locations while employing about 50 area residents.
