Fairfield County Veterans Hall of Fame to Honor Three Local Veterans at Annual Induction Ceremony

LANCASTER, OH- Three Fairfield County veterans whose dedication to service extends beyond their military careers will be honored during the 2026 Fairfield County Veterans Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. at The Levacy Center, 1550 Sheridan Drive, Lancaster.
The annual ceremony recognizes local veterans who have not only served their country with distinction but have continued to make meaningful contributions to their communities through leadership, volunteerism and civic involvement.

This year's inductees are:
  • Brian P. Green, U.S. Army: A 10-year veteran of the Ohio Army National Guard, Green has dedicated much of his civilian life to supporting fellow veterans through outdoor retreats, community events and volunteer service. He co-founded the Fairfield County Military Homecoming Celebrations and actively supports organizations such as Honor Flight Columbus and Team Rubicon.
  • Ronald E. Nixon, U.S. Air Force: Following eight years of military service, Nixon continued serving his community as a firefighter, medic, police chief and mayor of Bremen. His dedication to volunteerism includes supporting local law enforcement initiatives, leading disaster relief efforts with the American Red Cross and contributing more than 3,000 volunteer hours at Fairfield Medical Center.
  • Lester E. "Gene" Wood, U.S. Army: Wood dedicated nearly 45 years to public service, including 38 years as Fairfield County recorder, where he championed initiatives to preserve veterans' military records and improve access to benefits. He continues to honor fellow veterans through his volunteer work with the Lancaster Ohio Veterans Burial Detail and remains actively involved in community service initiatives.
The Fairfield County Veterans Hall of Fame was established to recognize veterans whose commitment to service continues long after their military careers have ended. Inductees are nominated by the public and selected based on their post-military contributions to civic, professional and charitable causes.

"Honoring our veterans is about more than recognizing their time in uniform. It's about acknowledging the lasting impact they continue to make right here in Fairfield County," said Fairfield County Commissioner Dave Levacy, president of the Fairfield County Veterans Hall of Fame Board of Directors. "This ceremony gives our community an opportunity to come together, express our gratitude and celebrate individuals who have dedicated so much of their lives to
serving others. Their commitment to service is an example for all of us."

The evening will bring together veterans, their families, community leaders and residents to celebrate the accomplishments of this year's inductees. The event will include a formal induction ceremony, dinner and moments of remembrance honoring veterans who have passed away. Michael Johnson, director of the Sherman House Museum and historian for the Fairfield County Heritage Association, will serve as the evening’s keynote speaker.

Through the annual induction ceremony, the Fairfield County Veterans Hall of Fame seeks to preserve the legacies of local veterans while inspiring future generations to embrace the values of service, leadership and community involvement.

Community members are invited to attend the ceremony, but advance registration is required. To register or learn more about the Fairfield County Veterans Hall of Fame and its nomination process, visit https://fairfieldcountyveterans.org/.
