Fairfield County Plants Heritage Tree to Celebrate the America 250-Ohio Commemoration

Fairfield County Plants Heritage Tree to Celebrate
the America 250-Ohio Commemoration

LANCASTER, Ohio – Fairfield County took part in a historic tree planting ceremony to honor the America 250-Ohio celebration on Tuesday, April 28. Each of Ohio’s 88 counties took part in this celebration.

During the ceremony, Fairfield County citizens joined together at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds to plant a white oak tree, deemed as a Heritage Tree, given that the fairgrounds serves as a central location where community members can gather to view the planted tree and honor America.

This historic ceremony was initiated by the Planting History program under America 250-Ohio, the official state commission responsible for spearheading Ohio’s celebrations and commemoration around America’s semiquincentennial in 2026. The program’s goal is to honor America’s 250th anniversary by planting trees that are native to Ohio, like the white oak tree. During the ceremony, leaders from the community shared the importance and significance of the Heritage Tree initiative, explaining that this tree planting will continue to impact the community for generations.

“Planting this tree on the Fairfield County Fairgrounds to honor the America 250-Ohio celebration is a great way for the community to gather and celebrate our country and the legacy of Fairfield County,” said Fairfield County Commissioner David Levacy. “Watching this tree grow will help inspire future generations to continue that celebration for many years.”

The Heritage Trees program is made possible by Presenting Sponsor Cenovus Energy. The program was created in partnership with Dawes Arboretum, Cox Arboretum MetroPark, Holden Forests & Gardens, Keep Ohio Beautiful, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Rowe Arboretum, and Secrest Arboretum.
