Fairfield County Courthouse Selected to Receive 2026 Coronet Award

LANCASTER, OH- The Fairfield County Commissioners are proud to announce that the Fairfield County Courthouse has been selected to receive a 2026 Coronet Award from the Fairfield County Heritage Association in recognition of the county's commitment to historic preservation and property enhancement.

Each year, the Fairfield County Heritage Association presents the Coronet Awards to recognize outstanding properties throughout the community for exceptional restoration, renovation and landscaping efforts. The awards celebrate the dedication of property owners and organizations working to preserve Fairfield County's architectural heritage while enhancing the community's character.

Built in 1872, The Fairfield County Courthouse is a Renaissance-Romanesque landmark constructed from locally quarried Blackhand sandstone. Today, the courthouse serves as both a center of county government and a symbol of the community's rich history. The recognition highlights the importance of maintaining historic public spaces for current and future generations.
"The Fairfield County Courthouse is more than a government building. It is an important part of our county's history and a landmark that generations of residents have come to recognize," said Fairfield County Commissioner Steve Davis. "We are honored to receive this recognition and appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in refreshing and renewing the building’s exterior while preserving its historical integrity.”

Recent improvements to the courthouse included cleaning and sealing the sandstone, extensive roof and gutter work, and repairs to the building’s signature archway. These efforts helped preserve the historic structure while maintaining its architectural character.

The Fairfield County Commissioners extend their appreciation to the Fairfield County Heritage Association for its continued dedication to recognizing and celebrating the preservation of historic properties throughout the county.
