Fairfield County Board of Commissioners Issue Scam Alert to Protect the Public Fairfield County, OH – August 8, 2025

Fairfield County is warning the public about a recent scam targeting residents with unsolicited communications and invoicing purporting to come from county offices. Scammers may request individuals who have utilized county services to provide payment for services via a wire transfer or other means. Should you receive communication purporting to be from a Fairfield County department or agency requesting payment, please contact the department/agency directly. Do not use contact information found in the suspect communication. You may find Fairfield County contact information on the county’s website at https://www.co.fairfield.oh.us.
 
Please remember that Fairfield County organizations and their representatives will not request information such as your social security number or banking information. Fairfield County will not ask for payment through untraceable methods like gift cards or cryptocurrency. Fairfield County will not require payment through wire transfers.

Warning Signs of a Scam May Include:

  • Requests for personal or financial information.
  • Threats of immediate action or arrest.
  • Unofficial email addresses or phone numbers.
  • Unsolicited contact claiming to be from Fairfield County.
  • Improper usage of capitalization or grammar on communications.
“We take this matter seriously and are committed to protecting the public,” said County Administrator Aundrea Cordle. “If you receive any suspicious communication, do not respond. Instead, report it immediately to the Sheriff’s Office, or contact the proper agency or authority.”.

What To Do If You Are Targeted:
  • Do not provide personal or financial information.
  • Contact Fairfield County Sheriff or a local law enforcement agency to report the incident.
