Berne Union Aawarded TeachArtsOhio Grant for 7th Consecutive Year

SUGAR GROVE, Ohio – Berne Union High School is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious TeachArtsOhio (TAO) grant from the Ohio Arts Council for the seventh consecutive year. This grant allows the school to continue its successful partnership with Columbus-based artist Richard Duarte Brown, offering students an extraordinary opportunity to engage with a professional artist on a weekly basis.

The TeachArtsOhio program brings professional teaching artists into schools, offering students engaging, high-quality arts experiences. Focused on sustained and impactful arts instruction, TAO enhances students’ learning without compromising a school’s commitment to the arts. At Berne Union, students work with Duarte Brown through this program, exploring hands-on art projects while learning how he incorporates storytelling and preserves moments in time through his creations.

“This program is an incredible opportunity for our students to engage with a practicing artist who brings such passion and creativity to our art room,” said Christina Clumm, high school art teacher at Berne Union High School. “Every year, every week, every day, the question we hear is, ‘When is Duarte coming back?’ His ability to inspire and connect with students is unmatched, and we’re thrilled to have him with us for another year.”

Duarte’s mentorship provides more than just artistic instruction – it offers students a chance to explore the creative process, bridge cultural differences, and gain a deeper understanding of how art can preserve stories and document the world around them. The program exemplifies the mission of TeachArtsOhio by connecting generations and fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
