AMANDA, Ohio (February 2, 2026) – Amanda-Clearcreek Local Schools (A-C) announced the hiring of their new head football coach, William “Eddie” Johnson, to lead the 2026 season. Johnson brings 15 years of experience to the A-C football program, nearly half of which has been devoted to the district. A-C’s football program record features 25 playoff appearances, back-to-back state championship titles in 1999 and 2000, and three state runners-up finishes in 1997, 2003, and 2004.
A-C Football is full speed ahead, integrating Johnson into off-season workouts and drills with the student athletes. Johnson is no stranger to the program as a former alum and coach. Johnson served as an assistant coach from 2011-2015, as well as the 2021 and 2025 seasons, including his position as defensive coordinator last year. Johnson succeeds Chet Saum, who resigned in November 2025 after three seasons as head coach with a 14-18 record.
“I am very thankful to be taking the next step in my coaching career,” said Eddie Johnson, head coach of the Amanda-Clearcreek Football Program. “Coaching with several Hall of Fame coaches has provided me many opportunities to learn, and I look forward to using those skills to build the tradition of our program.”
In addition to his coaching for A-C, Johnson formerly coached at Chillicothe for eight years in numerous positions, including assistant coach and special teams coordinator. There, he solidified his coaching philosophy to motivate players in the classroom and on the field, equipping them with skills for discipline in all areas of their lives. Johnson carries the torch forward at A-C, leading from the inspiration of previous Hall of Fame coaches, including Ron Hinton (2009) and Jeff Ardnt (2014), of whom he had the privilege to play for and work alongside.
