Victim Advocate

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience in social work, psychology, or related human service profession or training and experience in area of domestic violence, legal remedies for domestic violence, and case management strategies.

JOB FUNCTION:

1. Good communication/listening skills; interpersonal skills – problem solving; critical thinking; empathy; understanding; compassion.

2. Providing support, gathering information, and initiating contact with victims of domestic violence, as well as other crimes related to assault and/or threats.

3. Providing support, gathering information, and explaining the legal process at the Municipal court level.

4. Providing information and explaining the process of civil protective orders.

5. Assisting with filing forms for civil protective orders at the Court of Common Pleas.

6. Providing accompaniment to victims involved in the criminal and civil justice system.

7. Supports and implements all programmatic goals and objectives of The Lighthouse, Inc.

8. Implements all Lighthouse, Inc. personnel policies

9. Adheres to the Federal, State Statutes, and Marsy’s Law regarding confidentiality, non-discrimination, and ethical treatment of victims.

10. Performs all other duties and assumes responsibilities and priorities as determined by the Executive Director and/or Operations Director of The Lighthouse, Inc.

11. Adheres to the philosophy and goals of The Lighthouse, Inc. in the contacts and treatment of victims of domestic violence.

12. Initiate case files, maintain case files, and document case activities.

13. Ability to confer with Law Enforcement officials; coordinate interviews between Law Enforcement and victims.

14. Provide support to victims and family during Law Enforcement interaction, prosecutors, and other court personnel.

15. Review Law Enforcement crime reports; contact victim regarding possible crisis intervention and emergency assistance; conduct immediate needs assessment and provide information and referrals.

16. Explain legal and court procedures and available community resources.

17. Provide ongoing emotional support; encourage, empower, and support victims through the Municipal Court or Court of Common Pleas process.

18. At times, the ability to work beyond the normal work day (i.e., staying late for jury trials that extend beyond 4:00 p.m.)

19. Routine administration duties, including preparing mailings and correspondence; file appropriate forms and reports.

20. Perform related duties as required.

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
