The Process Engineer is responsible for overseeing the installation, start-up, and operation of new processes. Additionally, the process engineer is responsible for providing on-site operations support, identifying, and evaluating continuous process improvement opportunities, supporting local capital project development and execution, and implementing, maintaining, and improving process safety management systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the development of recovery processes for nickel, cobalt, lithium, and other metals and materials from batteries.
  • Develop process(es) from the lab-scale to full production.
  • Determine engineering and operating parameters from lab-scale through scale-up and full production.
  • Support material and energy balance development and adjustment as required.
  • Perform Technical Economic Assessments (TEA) on processes.
  • Facilitate technical information exchange and resource assignments with third party partners.
  • Support Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) improvement initiatives and HS&E compliance, including Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) considerations.
  • Participate in process PHA assessments and lead resolution of PHA findings.
  • Participate in, facilitate, and support additional site PSM elements such as management of change (MOC), incident investigation, document management, employee training, pre-start up safety reviews (PSSR)Support standard operating procedure (SOP), commissioning, and maintenance plan creation for newly installed process equipment.
  • Identify and provide foundation to execute continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Act as a local resource in the plant for capital project development and execution.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and provide technical support to operations as needed.
  • Develop and execute time studies to streamline battery disassembly, tear-down and staging activities.
  • Recommission pilot processing line and evaluate pilot system improvements.
  • Identify, design, and execute small scale pilot studies to improve operating parameters or unit profitability
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3-5 years of process engineering experience in the chemical industry or related field.
  • Knowledge of process design, unit operations, and process control fundamentals
  • Self-driven with ability to work independently on a routine basis to achieve work goals.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering
