Candlelit streets and beautiful, historic churches filled with Christmas music will be the perfect setting to enjoy the season when the Candlelight Tour is held on Saturday, Dec. 11, in Downtown Lancaster. This is the 42nd year the Fairfield County Heritage Association has presented the tour. Last year’s tour was canceled because of Covid. This year’s theme is “Hear the Joyful Refrains.” HOW IT WORKS The evening begins at 6pm at First United Methodist Church. The audience will be divided into smaller groups to visit four churches in turn: • First Presbyterian Church • Emanuel Lutheran Church • St. Peter’s Lutheran Church • and First English Lutheran Church. All the groups meet up at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church for the grand finale. The tour has many working parts. The clergy and the musical directors have been working with vocalists and instrumentalists all fall to prepare for this night, and they call on volunteers to usher guests in and out. Our tour guides lead groups from church to church in a specific pattern. Student volunteers from Lancaster High School escort our groups across each intersection. Other student volunteers will put out and light dozens and dozens of luminaries and pick them up after the tour has ended. TICKETS: Tickets are $10 in advance and $4 for students 5 to 18. They may be purchased at the Fairfield County Heritage Association office in the Georgian Museum, 105 E. Wheeling St., and the Sherman House Museum, 137 E. Main St. Tickets are also available online at www.FairfieldHeritage.com or by calling the Fairfield Heritage office at 740-654-9923. On the night of the tour, tickets for adults will be $12 each. Student tickets will be $4. Tickets may be purchased at First United Methodist Church, 163 E. Wheeling St. Ticket windows open at 5:30pm.
